TEACH ART TO CHILDREN

At the homeschool convention last week, I picked up two books on teaching art. We have had a lot of fun with them this week! We have done some art projects throughout our school year, but we didn't really have an art curriculum. The original Draw Today program that they started at the beginning of the year was a complete bomb. These books have been so much better!!

This Usborne Book of Art Ideas is full of so many great things!

Having new art supplies always helps to inspire.....

Boo is showing us her crackle effect sunflower drawing. This is made by coloring with wax crayons, and then crumpling up the paper several times, and then painting over the entire page with very watered down watercolors. The cracks in the paper soak up the paint which gives it this effect. So pretty....

Banana's sunset made from chalk pastels... working on blending.

This is a cool idea - we will be trying some more of these soon. Yesterday, Banana drew an image out of glue and let it dry overnight. Then today she painted over it with watercolors - of course the dried glue doesn't absorb the paint like the paper does.

We made a color wheel and learned about it how works - all colors come from the three primary colors.

These trees were very fun. You put an ink blot or watercolor blot at the bottom of the paper and then use a straw to blow the paint or ink all over the paper up and out like branches.

Then we added leaves on the branches with fingerprints.

That does look like fun. I think I probably would like this. Great job Boo and Hannah. Love your pictures.

They did such beautiful work! I am an amateur/intermediate artist but I have a hard time finding a curriculum that will help me inspire my children and teach art in a way that is comprehensive but not overwhelming.

I will have to look in to those resources. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed weekend!
