FROG AND TOAD

Look at this little guy who came to visit us at our front door! It was perfect timing as we have been learning about the life cycle of tadpoles to frogs. Banana has found about a dozen HUGE tadpoles (seriously - the size of her entire hand) in the creek and she keeps bringing them up to her small pond, but I think they keep getting eaten by some sort of hungry critter because they disappear overnight. Perfect time to teach about tadpoles and frogs!

Miss Boo was quite taken by him.

She checked out every part of him.

She poked and prodded, stroked and rubbed on this little fella... and fell quite in love.

She gave him a drink of water from our bubbly fountain.

and measured how long his legs were,

and we wondered why he had a red spot on his belly

So we read some stories from Frog and Toad and tried to imagine what he might have been doing all day.

She had him do some things that Frog and Toad did in the book - like stand on his head.

She reluctantly let the very thankful frog hop back to his home... and we came in and drew some pictures of frogs.

even Nana joined the fun!

And we read a fun frog story out of this book Among the Pond People - and we pretended to be frogs by stretching our right and front forefeet and hindfeet, one at a time, just like in the story. This book has great stories that really make you wonder about life in a pond. The frogs in this story talked about how they lay 4,000 eggs each and they can't keep track of whose are whose floating around the pond, so they wait until they hatch and then decide which ones they would rather claim as their own!! We tried to play a game of leap frog - but our littlest froggy was feeling a little crabby at that particular time - probably relating to having to let her beloved froggy go.

So we reviewed the life cycle of the frog...

and drew a picture of it too.

Multi-generational homeschooling...... ahhhh - I LOVE IT!!!
