FALL NESTING

I tried to hold on to summer as long as I could - I really did. But I finally had to take our seashell collection of this summer off the mantle. The seasons have certainly changed here in Maryland. There is a crisp cool breeze blowing through the open windows, the nights are so chilly that sweaters are needed, the apples are ripe, the mums are in bloom, the squirrels are busily gathering, and some trees are even turning beautiful shades of the colors of autumn. I love decorating for fall - the colors of fall are the colors of my home to begin with. I made this little pumpkin topiary after a trip to the craft store. I saw something similar that was way over-priced and decided to try making it myself. I found the stack of three foam pumpkins for 40% off, and just added a candle holder and some fall garland to it - so simple!!

Love how they look on the mantle.

I got a little creative and put this old fall wreath around my not-so-favorite chandelier - I think I like it!

Punkin decided to lay on the table and take a picture of it from underneath - love the light!

My fruit plate hasn't been refilled with fresh fruit lately - so now it has a few pumpkins instead.

I removed some of the greenery on the foyer table and added another fall wreath.

The girls found these little owls at the craft store - and I love how the three they picked out reminded me of my three girls. Someone even clipped them onto these candle holders - cute!!

My little Boo was VERY excited about opening up the bins of fall decorations. It was so cute to watch her place items around the house, stand back and assess it, and then shake her head either yes or no. I had to wonder if this is a behavior she has seen and mimicked or if this was just all her!!??? I don't think I do that. :) The next few pictures were all Boo-inspired.

She loves the fall potpourri mix and made sure the cinnamon stick was on top - everytime she walks by, she picks it up to smell it.

  1. I love all the fall decorations. Yesterday evening as we were leaving the house when I drove by the front I thought in our 100 degree weather that the fall decorations on the front door really didn't fit. However, they are up and will stay for awhile longer and then Christmas will go up and hopefully by then we will be down to 80 degrees. I love fall and the decorations, but by the time it looks fall here it is usually January. So, enjoy your fall. I would like to see some pretty leaves and be able to sip hot tea and eat some pear or apple crisp. But summer is still going stong in Florida. We still have at least another couple weeks that we can swim, but I don't really want to anymore. I think I will go put my pumpkins out in the house and maybe Mother nature will catch on.

  2. Oh Heather! Your home is beautiful! It is so warm and inviting! I must tell you that Fall is my most favorite time of the year. We live in Florida where it is summer for 11 months out of the year, fall-like for about two weeks (in February) and winter for about two weeks (also in February). I have always dreamed of having my home decorated for fall like you have done! It is so lovely! Thank you for sharing your home!

  7. I'm stealing your whole 3-pumpkin-on-a-candlestick idea - love it! I went to The Inspired Room last week and can't go there again. It's like the abyss for me and I never came out; didn't get much done. I need to pull out my fall bins - send E over to help me :).

  9. Heather---LOVE the fall decorations! Everything looks so warm and inviting! I actually decorated this week here too. Even though we are in FL---I'm demanding it to be Fall!!! Already made my first batch of pumpkin cookies for the kids and bought apple cider this week. Of course it's 93 degrees today, but that's okay... Thanks for sharing your pics! Miss you, friend.
